Christina at Holdsworth House Hotel

Holdsworth House

For those of you that aren’t familiar with West Yorkshire and in particular Halifax, Holdsworth House Hotel is a grand Jacobean Manor built in 1633 and is now run as a wonderful country hotel.  This hotel is a magnificent location for anyone’s wedding and offers wonderful photographic opportunities.  I love working here so much that here’s another view of this magnificent house…

And there's more

Out of the blue I received a phone call from Christina wanting help.  It turns out that after an unsuccessful hair trial with her original hairdresser all did not go well.  In desperation Christina called in the hope that I could fit her in not only for a trial, but on her wedding day.  With a little juggling we managed it – phew!

Tina wanted her long straight glossy hair elegantly swept up with some curls cascading over her shoulders an back.  The issue with the original trial was the stylists insistence on using hair straighteners to curls the hair which can produce wonderful curls but in Tina’s case simply wasn’t tight enough to maintain the curls for more than an hour.  To combat this Tina and I agreed that using a strong mousse during the blow drying process followed by good old-fashioned heated rollers to achieve tight ringlets.  By the time the style was completed, the curls had dropped slightly but achieved the dream look Tina was after.

Want to see what I mean?  Well here goes…the first picture is of Tina just after I finished blow drying her hair, the second picture is my assistant and me sorting out the heated roller
pins.

Preparing

Preparing

You’d think that having achieved the hairstyle that I could simply wish the bride well, go for a cup of tea and then go home, but this never happens.  Why?  Another area of experience that always comes in handy is helping the bride into her wedding gown.  Usually the bridesmaids and family are busy getting themselves ready or rushing around and an experienced pair of hands are most welcome.  I always advise my brides to step into their dress and pull it up to avoid disturbing the hair and make-up, this often goes against the instructions of the shop fitting but never once has this been an issue.  We can always add the petticoat and/or hoops afterwards.  In Tina’s case her comments were that she had never been so efficiently fitted into her wedding dress as my assistant and I had managed for her.

So, dress appropriately titivated, we helped Tina into her shoes, added her jewellery and the final touch, fitted the veil.  Princess Tina was then ready for her groom.  And here’s a couple of quick photographs to show you.
