I was on my way to pick my dog up from the vets when I received a text from Vicky, my long term client become friend, to say she was engaged! Yay!

Vicky was planning to move in with her boyfriend, Gareth, in New Mill near Huddersfield and they decided to start planning ‘the big day’ before ‘the moving in day’. I was so delighted when she asked me to do her hair and make-up for the wedding and couldn’t wait to start planning with her.

Their chosen venue is the divineNostell Prioryat Nostell near Wakefield but we will be getting her ready at her parent’s house in Holmfirth, so that’s where we decided to do the trial.

After untold traumas with the dress we decided on the hair style and make-up and set to work. There are lots of fabulous photos so I’ll try to keep the commentary short and to the point.

Vicky has long, silky, fine, straight hair and I wanted as much volume as I could get so I blow dried it using a root boost product to produce the lift required.

I have to say that both Vicky and her Mum (Tricia) seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day and there were smiles all round which was lovely for me.

Having dried the hair I put heated rollers in for body and curl.

Ouch! How many rollers?

Sometimes it isn’t until you see the photographs that you can truly appreciate how beautiful someone is; sometimes you just know instantly.

Bina is an ‘instantly’

I had the great pleasure of working with Bina on her wedding day earlier this month. Even the wakeup call at 6am did not dampen the heart – this was a wedding session we stylists and make-up artists long for.

Along for the ride, actually to hand me hairspray, grips, curling tongs etc., was my husband Paul. In between being sprayed by the air freshener and my hairspray, he managed to capture some beautiful moments like the one you see here.

Bina, I hope your day went well and Paul and I wish you all the happiness and success for your marriage and if you want us to come to India with you to cover your wedding, we will be there any time – hint, hint!!

Love to you

Here’s a video of a wedding we shot recently and what a fabulous time we had – thank you to Katie and Martin for sharing your day with us.

A small word of warning though, the video takes a while to load AND I suggest not maximising it on your screen for it will pixelate.  Right now I am waiting to see how rendering to dvd quality looks.

As always, thank you for looking and call soon.

Christmas tree lights

Christmas tree lights

Pneumonia – yep, my body has given me an early Christmas present and not wishing to sound ungrateful, but this is one of those presents I want to return and get a full refund.

This is likely to be my last post in 2008 but maybe not, who knows.  Just in case it is let me take the opportunity to raise a glass of warm toddy andwish you all a wonderful Christmas and a fighting fit 2009.

Can I have…

30 hours in a day please?

So much work and so little time to tell anyone about it.

Bridal hair trials galore; the wedding days themselves; the eternal problem of children getting ill and the dogs still need to be walked.  There really isn’t enough time in the day.

The image above is Katie York and Martin Bell on their wedding day in the beautiful West Yorkshire village of Almondbury.  Katie looked stunning but as it’s late I’ll have to come back to the details of this and other weddings another day.

As always, peace, wealth, health and sleep!

OK, so I adore my job which is just as well.  Since I covered the wedding for Nat and Paul in April I’ve had a string of calls from brides desperate to find a last minute stand in mobile hairdresser.  Must be the time of year/something in the water/got out of bed etc., etc.  An unbelievable amount have been tragically let down at the 11th hour and then a mad panic to find anyone to come and do hair/makeup.

Please, if you’re a supplier to a bridal couple don’t let them down – ever.  It’s bad manners, poor practice and on a purely emotional level, just not right.  If your business hasn’t got a robust contingency plan then get one.  We’re in business to help couples ensure that their day goes without a hitch, so to speak; the last thing they want to hear is a ‘Sorry, but…’

To anyone reading this site – we’ve NEVER let anyone down and we don’t intend starting now.  We may not be available to cover your day but if we have agreed a date and what it is we’re going to do for you then we’ll be there.

When I get more time I will write up my experiences from some of these weddings most of which we didn’t cover the photography so no images.
See you soon and thanks for checking in.

The Chapel on the estate at Rudding Park

This last weekend saw me attending to Natalie on her wedding day. The ceremony and preparations were held at Rudding Park just outside of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

Rudding Park is a beautiful venue and the weather held off to make, what I’m sure, was going to be a fabulous day.

If you attended the day and would like to see some unofficial pictures of Natalie during the preparation then click the tab at the top of this page or click the picture of the inside of the chapel. Once you reach the next page you will be required to input a password – this you can get from Natalie when they return from their honeymoon.

I love my job made even more special by helping great people like Natalie.

UPDATE – the link from the picture above has now been removed to make space for other brides.  If you want any of the images that were present in the Nat & Paul gallery please simply contact me and we can discuss which images you would like to order.
